Eat your salad (no dessert)

I've been doing some thinking lately, and I've decided that I need to take my health and fitness more seriously.

My body has been good to me (save the stretch marks and occasional battle with back acne). I digress. Considering my diet, I should be far more flabby than I am. My body has put in overtime trying to metabolise the shit I have been putting into it.

I joined the gym at my job. Calling it a gym is being generous. It's comprised of two small rooms with a few pieces of cardio equipment and some free weights. I don't mind though. All I need is an elliptical and a treadmill. Plus, I plan on doing pilates at home at least three times a week. Furthermore, the convenience of having access to the aforementioned equipment at a place I am forced to go to regularly will certainly make me use it more - right?

Also, I am committing to no longer consuming snack products that are wrapped in plastic.

We'll see how long this lasts. Wish me luck.

Happy Thanksgiving

There is a certain blog that I check on a daily basis. He doesn't post regularly, but when he does, it's special. He's crude in a way that I really appreciate. Anyhow, here is an excerpt from an older entry that I found appropriate for the holiday:

Those new McDonald's Snack Wraps are only $1.29 each, and I usually just chew it and spit it out the window. However, there was an LAPD car behind me, and I didn't want to get a ticket. I HAD TO SWALLOW IT!

I'll be alright.

The last few months have been pretty rough, so I feel compelled to blog about my trials and tribulations. Hopefully, sometime in the near future, I will be able to look back and laugh.

  • Towards the end of August, I was at the YWCA near my house running on the treadmill. While I was trying to burn off the Hostess snack cakes I had consumed earlier in the day, someone was breaking into my locker and stealing my wallet, cell phone, and house/car keys. Within thirty minutes from when I presume my belongings had been stolen, nearly $900 had been charged on my debit card at eight different gas stations. Besides having no money for over a week, I had to spend an additional $300 dollars on new keys, an access card, a driver's license, and a new phone.
  • My money is funny, and my change is strange. I can't seem to keep my checking account balance positive. It all started when I returned my leased vehicle at the end of the summer and purchased a new car. Because of what I considered to be "normal wear and tear" and other miscellaneous fees, I owe Chrysler over $1300. Also, my current car payment became past due by two months. I was two days away from getting it repossessed before a dear friend made a deposit into my checking account.
  • I was audited by the I.R.S. and owe $700.
  • I have two credits cards that are maxed out to the tune of $7800.
  • I'm in need of dental work that only Oprah will be able to help me out with.
  • At the end of October, my car was broken into (see picture above). My laptop was stolen. Shortly after the incident occurred, the person who broke into my car called to tell me that he had my laptop and wanted $100 to return it. I of course called the police, but they were unable to meet me by the time the culprit wanted me to meet him. Ultimately, I paid the $100. I also had to pay $300 to get my window fixed.

I'm looking forward to the new year. My luck will turnaround, right? I'm hopeful. I've met a great guy, and I'm certain that I will start medical school within the next six months. I'm just crossing my fingers that I can get through the next month or so smoothly.
